Leicester City boss Craig Shakespeare: 'Mahrez wants to join top-six club'

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare says that Riyad Mahrez wants to join a top-six club this summer.

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has claimed that Riyad Mahrez will stay unless a top-six club comes in for him.

The Algerian international revealed at the end of last season that he wants to leave the King Power Stadium, one year after lifting the Premier League title with the Foxes.

Arsenal have been touted as a possible destination for Mahrez, while Chelsea are believed to be keeping tabs on the winger.

Roma have been the most keen, having had numerous bids - including a £32m offer - rejected, but Shakespeare has claimed that the 26-year-old wants a top-six outfit.

"He wants to play for a top-six club," the Daily Mail quotes Shakespeare as saying. "If we don't get an offer from a top-six club, he stays.

"If that offer comes in and it's not enough, he stays. It is quite clear for me at the moment, he has made that statement but he is our player."

Mahrez, who was named PFA Player of the Year in 2016, scored six goals and produced three assists in the league last season.
