Leicester City to launch investigation into Jamie Vardy racism claims

Leicester City say they will hold an investigation into claims that forward Jamie Vardy racially abused a man in a casino, after the Englishman issued an apology.

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has apologised after being accused of racial abuse.

Video footage emerged of the recently-capped England international abusing a fellow gambler at a casino.

Vardy is said to have shouted the words "Yo Jap, walk on" to an Asian punter.

In a statement released this afternoon, the 28-year-old said: "I wholeheartedly apologise for any offence I've caused. It was a regrettable error in judgement I take full responsibility for and I accept my behaviour was not up to what's expected of me."

The Foxes, who kicked off their Premier League campaign in impressive style on Saturday, have also stated that they will carry out a full investigation into the matter.

"We expect the highest standards from our players on and off the pitch and for them to set an example as role models in our community," said a club spokesman.

"We have noted Jamie's apology and will begin a process of investigation into the incident imminently. There will be no further comment until this process has concluded."

Leicester sacked three players - Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson - earlier this summer after they racially abused three local girls during the club's trip to Thailand.
