Claudio Ranieri eyes Champions League qualification

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri sets his sights on qualifying from the Champions League group stages having been drawn alongside Porto, Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has set his sights on securing qualification from the group stages of the Champions League.

The Foxes will be in Europe's top-tier club competition for the first time in their history this season following their remarkable title triumph last term.

The Premier League champions have been drawn alongside Porto, Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen, and Ranieri is hoping that the European experience goes on for as long as possible.

"It's good for our fans to come here and for [the media] - a lot of you are in the Champions League for the first time. It's a very good experience and gift for everyone here. It's a good experience to go around Europe. I hope it's not just three away games - I hope for a little more," he told reporters.

"I don't know how many [Leicester need to qualify]. Sometimes eight or 10 can be good, sometimes not. Slowly, slowly. I'm very proud and pleased a lot of fans will come with us around Europe."

The last time Leicester played a European tie of any kind was in 2000, when they were beaten by Red Star Belgrade in the first round of the UEFA Cup.
