South Yorkshire police have charged a 21-year-old man with assault following an attack on Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.
The supporter, Aaron Cawley, has also been hit with a charge of entering the field of play during Sheffield's 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Hillsborough on Friday evening.
Cawley made his way onto the pitch during the Championship meeting and appeared to strike the former Liverpool keeper in the face before running off the field.
The man, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, will appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court this morning.
