Roberto Di Matteo to take over at Las Palmas?

Former Chelsea and Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo is in contention to become Las Palmas's new head coach, according to a report.

Roberto Di Matteo is reportedly in contention to become Las Palmas's new head coach.

Las Palmas, who are bottom of La Liga after 16 matches of the 2017-18 campaign, are currently searching for a new manager after sacking Pako Ayestaran last month.

According to TMW, the Spanish club's board have identified former Chelsea manager Di Matteo as their leading target, and discussions will take place over the next few days.

Di Matteo has been without employment since being sacked by Aston Villa in October 2016 after winning just one of his 12 matches in charge of the Midlands club.

The 47-year-old, who ended his playing career in 2002, has also previously managed MK Dons, West Bromwich Albion and Schalke 04.
