Juventus pulverise Hellas Verona to reach Coppa Italia quarter-finals

Juventus advance to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia after thrashing Hellas Verona 6-1 in Thursday evening's clash at the Juventus Stadium.

Juventus have recorded a comprehensive 6-1 win over hapless Hellas Verona to advance to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia in this evening's clash at the Juventus Stadium.

The first chance fell to the visitors when Nene sent a searching cutback towards Emil Hallfredsson, who sent his shot wide of the near post.

However, the hosts opened the scoring after just six minutes when Sebastian Giovinco curled a free kick over the wall and past goalkeeper Rafael.

Juve piled forward in a bid to double their lead, but had to be alert at the other end when Panagiotis Tachtsidis whipped a cross towards Hallfredsson, whose header was forced out by Simone Padoin for a corner.

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri found themselves on the scoresheet again in the 21st minute when Roberto Pereyra tipped the ball beyond Guillermo Rodriguez before tucking a shot into the bottom left corner.

On the stroke of half time, Stephan Lichtsteiner then drove into the box before lashing a cutback towards Giovinco, who comfortably turned the ball into the net to take an emphatic lead into the dressing room at the break.

Things would get even better for Juve, as Paul Pogba struck his side's fourth in the 53rd minute when he latched on to Pepe's ball before scuffing home.

Just before the hour, Verona were able to claim a slight consolation when Rafael Marquez flicked a corner kick into the Bianconeri's box, which Nene duly turned in.

The hosts soon made it five not long after their clean sheet was breached, Marquez conceding a penalty which Alvaro Morata tucked past Rafael into the bottom corner.

Kingsley Coman capped off a dominant display with a goal in the latter stages, the Frenchman unleashing a thunderous strike at goal from 30 yards out which struck the underside of the bar before nestling into the back of the net.
