Didier Drogba scores the only goal of the game as Ivory Coast beat Sudan 1-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations opener.

Pre-tournament favourites Ivory Coast got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Sudan.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba scored the game's solitary goal on 40 minutes when he headed in from Blues teammate Salomon Kalou's cross.

The powerful forward had opportunites to double his tally and make the win more comfortable for his country, but both him Arsenal striker Gervinho were wasteful in-front of goal.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure also missed a late chance to make it 2-0 but it wouldn't prove costly as Sudan created little of note.
