Huddersfield Town could request a replay of their 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday today after Jeremy Helan was booked twice, but not sent off.
Referee Mick Russell yellow-carded the on-loan Manchester City player for a second time, midway through the first half, however he did not produce a subsequent red card.
Former Football League referee Tony Leake believes that Huddersfield could have grounds to demand a replay.
"The matter will have to be dealt with by the relevant authorities," he told Press Association Sport. "You can not rule out the possibility of a replay.
"If Huddersfield won the game 3-0 I would not expect that to happen, but if Huddersfield believe the player being on the field meant that the result did not go in their favour, then it could be that the game is replayed."
The error was also missed by the referee's assistants, with Huddersfield manager Simon Grayson saying he was 'staggered' by the decision.
