Fiorentina: 'Joaquin not leaving'

Fiorentina president Andrea della Valle says that Joaquin will not be allowed to leave the Italian club this summer, despite talk of a return to Real Betis.

Fiorentina president Andrea della Valle has insisted that Joaquin will not be allowed to leave the Italian club this summer.

The 34-year-old's agent recently admitted that his client wants to return to Real Betis, where he started his professional career, this summer.

However, Della Valle has said that the Spaniard is a "key part" of the Italian side's project and will therefore not be allowed to depart.

"Joaquin? He's a key part of our project and the coach believes in him," he told Firenzeviola.it.

"I spoke to Joaquin and he said he wanted to return to Spain, but he knows he can only do so in the future. I hope he's understood that.

"He wants to go home, but now is not the time because he's at the centrepiece of our project. The player isn't on the market, neither is any other player of ours."

Joaquin made over 200 league appearances for Betis before moving to Valencia in 2006.
