Former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall calls on the club to invest in their squad this summer.

Former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall believes that the Merseyside outfit need to sign at least four new players this summer.

Newly-appointed boss Roberto Martinez faces a fight to keep a number of his star players, but Southall has insisted that the Spaniard must also look to invest in the squad.

"I think it's clear. They need a centre-back, they need somebody in midfield, and they need a striker, maybe two," the 54-year-old told the Liverpool Echo.

"There are some decent kids coming through at the club, but a little bit of depth would make a real difference.

"We may see [Marouane] Fellaini leave, we may see [Leighton] Baines leave, but if they do, then so be it. If they don't want to play for the club, then let them go. They are four players short, for me."

Former boss David Moyes took charge of Manchester United this summer.
