Roberto Martinez praises "terrific" second-half performance in Arsenal defeat

Everton manager Roberto Martinez insists that his side "did not deserve" to lose by a two-goal margin against Arsenal in their Premier League meeting at the Emirates.

Roberto Martinez believes that this afternoon's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal provides a fair reflection of Everton's Premier League season to date.

The Toffees, who have now tasted victory just once in their last 11 top-flight outings, were edged out by the Gunners in North London courtesy of goals in either half by Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky.

Everton have failed to find any sort of momentum this campaign as they struggle down in 14th place in the table, although Martinez insists that the Merseyside outfit were worthy of at least a point at the Emirates Stadium.

"We didn't deserve the scoreline that is for sure," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "I thought we did many good things. It was disappointing to concede from a dead-ball situation, that is the last thing you want to do when you come to places like this.

"But in the second half we were terrific. We created very good chances, pushed Arsenal back, but unfortunately they got a deflected goal. It has been a reflection of our season really. It will take a bit of momentum in terms of results.

"If you get two or three wins everything changes. We have not had any momentum this season and that is reflected in the points tally but all we can do is get ready for the next game, try to discover that momentum and finish the season as strongly as we can."

Everton have a chance to bounce back from their latest setback when they take on Stoke City on Wednesday.
