Roberto Martinez expecting response from Arsenal

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is expecting a response from Arsenal at the Emirates after their 3-1 defeat at home to Monaco in the Champions League.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that he is expecting a response from Arsenal after the North London side lost 3-1 at home to Monaco in the Champions League.

Both the Toffees and the Gunners featured in Europe in midweek, but had contrasting results as Everton sealed their place in the last 16 of the Europa League with a 3-1 win over Young Boys.

Martinez, however, does not expect Arsene Wenger's side to be mentally distracted by their defeat and is anticipating a tough test when they visit the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

"I don't think Arsenal will suffer from a psychological setback after what happened in their last game. They have incredible experience in these sorts of games," the 41-year-old said, according to Goal.com.

"It is true that an extra 24 hours in terms of recovery makes a big difference. We need to make sure we are fully fit and refreshed. We expect an Arsenal fully focused on trying to carry on the outstanding form they have in the league, and we'll have to be at our very best.

"Arsenal have only had one home league defeat and we know we have a real difficult task in front of us. But at the same time, after our result last weekend, we are desperate to perform well and get a good result."

Everton will be desperate for a win, as they only have a six-point gap between themselves and Aston Villa, who are currently in 19th.

A win for the Gunners will propel them back into third in the Premier League table, above Manchester United, who beat Sunderland 2-0 this afternoon.
