Denmark confirm that Thomas Sorensen will not play at Euro 2012 after suffering a back injury in training.

Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen will not take part in this summer's European Championships with Denmark after suffering a back injury.

The 35-year-old picked up the injury in training and will be replaced by Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel.

Denmark boss Morten Olsen said: "Thomas has suffered an injury in his back. It means unfortunately that it is unlikely that he will recover in time to be available for matches for the finals."

Sorensen added: "I am deeply unhappy about it. I've been with the team for most of qualifying, and had looked forward to my fifth finals with the national team.

"But I also understand that it is a big risk to go with an injured goalkeeper and therefore I respect Morten's decision, even if it hurts."

Schmeichel will come in as third-choice keeper for the national side behind Stephan Andersen and Anders Lindegaard.
