Thomas Tuchel 'ordered to challenge for title with Chelsea this season'

Chelsea order incoming manager Thomas Tuchel to propel the club back into the mix for Premier League glory in the second half of the season, according to a report.

The Chelsea hierarchy have ordered incoming manager Thomas Tuchel to transform the Blues into title contenders during the second half of the season, according to a report.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel is expected to take the reins at Stamford Bridge later this week following the sacking of club legend Frank Lampard on Monday.

Tuchel is set to join a Chelsea side who are languishing in ninth in the Premier League table - five points adrift of the top four and 11 behind current leaders Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Tuchel has been demanded to propel Chelsea - who were once tipped as contenders for Premier League glory under Lampard - back up the table in the next few months.

The 47-year-old was relieved of his duties by PSG last month after the French champions began to falter in their title defence, and he could supposedly be appointed in time to take charge of Chelsea's clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.

Following Lampard's sacking, the Chelsea legend expressed his disappointment at not being given more time to turn the Blues' fortunes around.
