Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has suggested that David Luiz can still become one of the best defenders in the world.
On the final day of the transfer window, Luiz completed a surprise return to Stamford Bridge just two years after leaving for Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite his versatility, Conte has said that the Brazilian will compete for a central-defensive spot with Chelsea, and the Blues boss feels that he can help mould Luiz into a better player.
Conte told reporters: "We needed a centre-back. In this squad we have Gary Cahill and John Terry and sometimes we can adapt Branislav Ivanovic but we need a centre-back, for this reason we got him. Sometimes he plays as a midfielder but that is not the idea for us.
"Every player until the end of their career can improve. He is 29, a great age for him. He can become one of best defenders in the world."
Luiz is expected to feature in Chelsea's squad for their fixture away at Swansea City on Sunday.
