Brendan Rodgers wants to snap up Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata on a free transfer ahead of his first full season in charge of Leicester City, according to a report.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly intends to raid former club Celtic for centre-back Dedryck Boyata.

Rodgers stunned the Hoops by leaving for Leicester earlier this week and, according to The Sun, he will further irk supporters by moving for Boyata.

The 28-year-old starred for Celtic during Rodgers's near-three years in Glasgow, but he is out of contract in the summer and may be tempted by a return to the Premier League.

Leicester already have a number of central defenders on their books, but captain Wes Morgan is coming towards the end of his career and Manchester United may renew their interest in Harry Maguire, having come close to signing him last summer.

The report indicates that Rodgers is also looking at Aston Villa's John McGinn as part of a major investment in the squad ahead of his first full season in charge at the King Power Stadium.
