Malky Mackay to seek assurances from Cardiff City board

Malky Mackay's agent says that the Cardiff City boss is aware that he does not have the full backing of the board but will seek assurances over his future following the departure of Iain Moody.

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has requested a meeting where he will seek the full backing of the club's board, according to his agent Raymond Sparkes.

The Scot has been left wondering about his future since the departure of Iain Moody, who was axed and replaced by Alisher Apsalyamov, a friend of owner Vincent Tan's son with no previous experience in football.

"Malky does not want to talk about himself too much right now, but he is aware the biggest question that many people have is, 'What is the manager's current situation?'", Sparkes told Wales Online.

"He knows everyone wants him to stay and he says, 'Yes', he will do that. But he needs certain assurances that these things will be better as we move forward. We have to feel the climate is right to be able to move things forward.

"We know there are three or four 'Doubting Thomases' and Malky is aware right now there is not 100% support for him in the club. Malky's main aim is to seek and clarify his position at the club moving forward. We would like to make it totally clear that Malky has no intention of resigning."

Mackay led the Bluebirds to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season, and has started life in the top flight with two wins, two draws and three defeats.
