Preview: Cameroon vs. Nigeria - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's International Friendlies clash between Cameroon and Nigeria, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Cameroon and Nigeria meet in Weiner Neustadt on Tuesday evening just four days after the first friendly between the two sides.

A first-half goal from Andre-Frank Anguissa earned Cameroon a 1-0 win on that occasion, leaving the Indomitable Lions motivated to record successive victories over their African rivals.

While the Africa Cup of Nations is still another six months away, teams such as Cameroon and Nigeria are already putting together the final touches to their preparations for that tournament.

Their respective managers have plenty of fixtures ahead with the World Cup qualifiers due to commence later in 2021, but now is the time for experimenting with tactics and personnel.

Although both teams were strong on paper on Friday, it came as a minor surprise that the collective unit of Cameroon edged out a Nigeria side which featured more high-profile names.

Nigeria had their chances to respond to Anguissa's 34th-minute goal, but Gernot Rohr could have few complaints with his team's first defeat in six matches.

On the other hand, Cameroon were able to build on their workmanlike results during Africa Cup of Nations qualifying by adding another clean sheet to their name.

Despite failing to prevail in their final two group fixtures, Toni Conceicao's men kept four shutouts during that stage of the competition.

Some of their star players will remain missing for this contest, but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is likely to return in attack after beginning the last game among the substitutes.

The Bayern Munich forward has scored almost the same amount of international goals than the rest of the current squad with no other player netting more than three times.

Nigeria possess the greater strength-in-depth in the final third, but Rohr's vast array of attacking players have now failed to score in three of their last seven outings.

Team News

Choupo-Moting should head the Cameroon attack for this fixture, likely taking the place of Samuel Gouet who played 90 minutes last time out.

Conceicao must decide whether to hand another start to full-backs Duplexe Tchamba and Jean-Claude Billong, who also completed 90 minutes on their debuts.

Ignatius Ganago and Yvan Neyou will both be hoping for opportunities after impressing for Lens and Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 this season.

Rohr is expected to make a number of changes to his Nigeria XI, potentially resting key men such as Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Terem Moffi is in line to receive more minutes after making his debut last week, while Abraham Marcus and Valentine Ozornwafor could also be selected after their brief outings on Friday.

Cameroon possible starting lineup:
Omossola; Tchamba, Ngadeu-Ngadjui, Toko Ekambi, Billong, Anguissa, Neyou, Bahoken, Ganago, Choupo-Moting, Fai

Nigeria possible starting lineup:
Okoye; Collins, Awaziem, Ozornwafor, Troost-Ekong, Etebo, Shehu, Iwobi, Onuachu, Musa, Moffi

We say: Cameroon 1-1 Nigeria

Friday's fixture proved to be a competitive affair and we expect no different on Tuesday. The two sides are evenly matched, leaving us to predict a low-scoring draw in Austria.
