Uwe Hunemeier enjoying battle to keep hold of starting spot

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Uwe Hunemeier admits that he is relishing his battle with Gordon Greer and Lewis Dunk for a starting spot in the heart of defence.

Uwe Hunemeier has insisted that he is more than happy to fight for his first-team place at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The summer signing has featured 10 times for the Seagulls so far this season in the heart of defence.

With Lewis dunk and Gordon Greer also battling it out for a centre-back berth, Hunemeier knows that rotation is going to play a big part this season if Brighton are to maintain their promotion push.

"It was a new situation for me not being in the team, but there are a lot of matches this season and nobody will play all 46 games," he told the club's official website. "[Dunk and Greer] did well in the match against Cardiff and that is not a problem for me.

"In the next match, Gordon got injured and it was then my time again and I have to prove myself. If I do my best, then I give myself the best possible chance to stay in the team for as long as possible.

"It is important to have a good mentality in the team, as everybody works for the same aim. That is really important; we have a good, competitive squad and we now need some of the other players, because we have a few injuries in the team."

Albion currently lead the way in the Championship, sitting four points clear at the summit ahead of their trip to Reading at the weekend.
