Neither side has been able to break the deadlock in the first half of the Capital One Cup clash between Southend United and Brighton & Hove Albion at Roots Hall.
The Seagulls began the game on the front foot and Inigo Calderon lined up an effort from the edge of the box but his strike was blocked. He and his teammates appealed for handball against Cian Bolger, but the referee dismissed their claims for a penalty.
Brighton continued to threaten the Southend goal as Danny Holla lined up a free kick from the edge of the box, successfully curling his effort over the wall but Daniel Bentley managed to make the stop.
Southend came into the game as David Worrall was allowed to raid down the left flank and he cut back on to his right foot, but his curling effort went inches past the post.
