Scottish League One roundup: Brechin City secure playoff place

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's action in Scottish League One as Brechin make sure of their place in the promotion playoffs with a 2-2 draw against Stenhousemuir.

Brechin City secured a playoff place in Scottish League One by drawing 2-2 against Stenhousemuir this afternoon.

All four goals were scored in the opening 20 minutes, with Martin Grehan and Alan Lithgow giving Stenny a two-goal lead.

Andy Jackson and Alan Trouten replied to earn a point for Brechin, and the result could consign Stenhousemuir to the relegation playoff.

Forfar Athletic moved to the top of the table, for a few hours at least, after beating Dunfermline Athletic 3-1. The Angus club raced into a three goal lead before half time, but their time at the top could be cut short if Stranraer defeat Greenock Morton tonight.

Ayr United defeated relegated Stirling Albion 4-0 to move up to eighth. Adam Blakeman scored twice, with Nicky Devlin and Jon Paul McGovern also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Airdrieonians' 1-0 victory over Peterhead was not enough for them to maintain any chance of reaching the promotion playoffs.

Results in full: Ayr United 4-0 Stirling Albion, Dunfermline Athletic 1-3 Forfar Athletic, Peterhead 0-1 Airdrieonians, Stenhousemuir 2-2 Brechin City
