Sylvain Distin one of six players to leave Bournemouth

Veteran centre-back Sylvain Distin will leave Bournemouth when his contract on the south coast expires next month.

Bournemouth have confirmed that they will not renew Sylvain Distin's expiring contract at Dean Court.

The 38-year-old joined the Cherries last summer and went on to make 17 appearances in 2015-16.

In tribute to the experienced centre-back, manager Eddie Howe told the Bournemouth Echo: "Sylvain was a vital part of our squad throughout the season.

"Going into the Premier League, we felt bringing someone with vast experience and knowledge of the division would be hugely beneficial to our squad and give them someone to lean on.

"Sylvain played that role perfectly, but he also played his part on the pitch and was involved in some pivotal games. It was a really good experience for the other players to have worked with him for a year and I would like to thank him for his efforts."

On top of that, Bournemouth announced that Stephane Zubar, Josh Carmichael, Josh Wakefield, Mason Walsh and Jon Muleba will also be released next month.
