Nice stun Bordeaux with late Plea winner

Alassane Plea's last minute winner gives Nice a 2-1 victory over Bordeaux.

Bordeaux blew their chance to close the gap to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1's final Champions League spot after a 90th-minute winner from Alassane Plea gave Nice a 2-1 victory at Stade Chaban-Delmas this evening.

Despite having five first-team players away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, it was Bordeaux who started the brighter and could have been ahead through Diego Rolan, but the striker could only fire wide from the edge of the box after capitalising on a poor Nice clearance.

However, 60 seconds later Rolan put his side ahead from the penalty spot after Mouez Hassan had felled Nicolas Maurice-Belay in the area.

Nice's best chance of the first half came when Brazilian midfielder Carlos Eduardo acrobatically volleyed over from six yards out five minutes before the break.

Despite having barely threatened Cedric Carrasso all night, Nice were level on 66 minutes when Jordan Amavi nodded home a free kick for his third strike of the season.

The goal sparked the away side into life, but Gregory Sertic came close to wrestling the advantage back for Bordeaux when he struck a curling 25-yard free kick against the crossbar.

With just seconds remaining, Plea struck when he fired home to round off a swift counter-attack that secured all three points for Claude Puel's side.
