Sunderland midfielder Jordi Gomez is reportedly on his way for a medical at Blackburn Rovers ahead of a proposed loan move.
The 30-year-old joined the Black Cats in 2014 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team role at the club this season, making just five Premier League starts.
Manager Sam Allardyce has been busy so far in his first transfer window at the club, and his reshaping of the squad looks set to continue with the departure of Gomez.
The deal, which will see the Spaniard return to the North-West following a five-year spell with Wigan Athletic, is expected to run until the end of the season.
Blackburn, meanwhile, are expected to lose striker Jordan Rhodes on deadline day after he arrived in Middlesbrough ahead of a potential move to the Championship high-flyers.
