Vallodolid 0-1 Real Betis

Ruben Castro's 88th-minute winner snatches Real Betis all three points against newly-promoted Vallodolid.

Ruben Castro scored a late winner as Real Betis recorded a 1-0 victory at newly-promoted Real Vallodolid tonight.

The hosts, who have won two of their opening three games since regaining their La Liga status, were much the better side throughout the match.

Striker Javi Guerra had two first-half chances to put them in front but was denied by smart saves from Betis stopper Casto on both occasions.

Substitute Manucho, formerly of Manchester United, also came close to putting Vallodolid ahead late on, but sent his shot wide with the contest seemingly destined for a draw.

However, Betis snatched all three points in dramatic fashion when goalkeeper Jaime's dreadful error presented Castro with an empty net in which to place the ball home.

Patrick Ebert came close to netting an equaliser in injury time for Vallodolid, who could have moved third with victory tonight.
