Bayern Munich top Bundesliga after win over RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich rise to the top of the Bundesliga table courtesy of a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena.

German champions Bayern Munich have risen to the top of the Bundesliga table courtesy of a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night.

Borussia Dortmund's 4-2 defeat at Hannover had given Bayern the chance to top the table after 10 matches of the 2017-18 campaign, and Jupp Heynckes's side took the opportunity with a comfortable victory on home soil.

Leipzig were reduced to 10 men in just the 13th minute of the match when Willi Orban was handed a straight red card for hauling Arjen Robben to the ground with a last-man challenge, and it was uphill for the visitors from that moment.

Bayern needed just six minutes to make use of their one-man advantage, with James Rodriguez firing a low Robben cross into the bottom corner in the 19th minute of action.

One then became two in the 38th minute when Javi Martinez's excellent pass found Robert Lewandowski, who expertly finished into the bottom corner as Leipzig's challenge all but ended before the first period had finished.

It was all Bayern in the second period as the hosts looked for more goals, but Robben and James both missed good opportunities to pour more misery on Die Bullen.

Leipzig actually finished the game with nine men as Naby Keita went off injured late on, and Bayern played out the final moments in comfort as the Munich giants jumped above Dortmund to the top of the table.
