Diego Costa withdraws from Spain squad

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa withdraws from the Spain squad with a thigh injury.

Diego Costa has been forced to withdraw from the Spain squad with a thigh injury.

The Atletico Madrid forward was poised to win his first cap for the European and world champions this month after committing his international future to La Roja.

However, a statement from Atletico has revealed that the 25-year-old suffered a thigh strain in their 1-1 draw with Villarreal on Sunday evening.

As a result, Juventus striker Fernando Llorente has been called into the squad for their upcoming friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.

Cesc Fabregas has also been forced to withdraw from Vicente del Bosque's plans.
