Former Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has confirmed that the club has held talks with former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The Bulgarian international is available on a free after coming to the end of his deal with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, resulting in him being linked with a return to the Premier League.
"There were talks but I cannot reveal anything right now. It's a nervy period for Berbatov, his agent and Villa, and they'll be the first to announce if there's something," Metro quotes Petrov as saying.
Petrov, who retired from football in 2013 following a battle with leukemia, returned to Villa as a coach earlier this year.
