Aston Villa begin US tour with victory over Dallas

Andreas Weimann and Charles N'Zogbia both find the back of the net as Aston Villa beat Dallas 2-1 at Toyota Stadium.

Aston Villa's pre-season tour of the USA has started with a 2-0 victory over Dallas at the Toyota Stadium.

Dallas applied plenty of pressure in the early stages as they troubled Villa with a number of dangerous set pieces, but it was the visitors who had the first clear chance when Andreas Weimann fired straight at Raul Fernandez from a tight angle.

Andreas Escobar should have put Dallas ahead moments later when his effort sailed over the crossbar from a great position after Mauro Diaz had picked out his teammate.

Villa's final attack of the first half produced a goal as Darren Bent attracted the attention of a couple of Dallas defenders before finding Weimann, who confidently drilled past Fernandez.

Paul Lambert saw his side double their lead just four minutes after the break thanks to an inch-perfect free kick from Charles N'Zogbia.

Chances proved to be rare in the latter stages of the contest, despite an extended spell of dominance from Dallas, and Villa were able to hold on for another pre-season victory.
