Arsenal reportedly identify Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as a potential alternative to Brentford forward Ivan Toney.

Arsenal have reportedly identified Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as a potential target amid concerns over Brentford's valuation of Ivan Toney.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Toney, as they scour the market for potential additions ahead of the January window.

Despite having Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus as his two centre-forward options, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bring in a new striker.

Toney is attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur after scoring 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season.

The 27-year-old is currently serving an eight-month ban for breaching the Football Association's betting regulations.

After being allowed to return to training last week, Toney will be permitted to play competitive football from January.

As a result, Arsenal are said to be among those weighing up a January move, but they could be put off by Brentford's asking price.

While previous reports have suggested Brentford have set Toney's asking price at £60m, The Times are reporting that the Bees want a fee in the region of £80m.

The report suggests that the Gunners have also been on the lookout for alternative forward targets, and they have supposedly identified Gimenez as a possible option.

Since joining Feyenoord from Mexican side Cruz Azul, Gimenez has racked up 32 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Gimenez is currently the Eredivisie's top scorer after scoring nine times in Feyenoord's opening six league games of the 2023-24 season.

The 22-year-old, who is under contract until the summer of 2024, has also registered four goals in 20 international appearances for Mexico.

While Gimenez may be regarded as an alternative option to Toney, a move for either player could force Arsenal to sell players by June due to concerns over Financial Fair Play regulations.
