Alexis Sanchez scored a hat-trick as Arsenal came from behind to claim a 5-2 win over Leicester City in their Premier League clash.

Jamie Vardy gave the Foxes an early lead, but goals from Theo Walcott and Sanchez saw the Gunners head into the break in front.

Sanchez then added two more strikes in the second half, and after Vardy pulled a goal back for Leicester, Olivier Giroud scored deep into stoppage time to seal the points for Arsenal.

Was the result fair?

Arsenal deserved to claim the victory after a fine attacking performance at the King Power Stadium. They had only scored five goals in the Premier League before the match, but doubled their tally in a single afternoon. It was not until the second half that they really found their stride, as the hosts provided a major threat of their own in the opening 45 minutes.

It was Leicester who took the lead when Vardy broke clear of the defence to slot past Petr Cech and they had already hit the woodwork twice before Arsenal equalised. However, they were unable to keep up their high-tempo pressing game after the break, as the Gunners ran riot to get their league campaign back on track.

Leicester's performance

The Foxes made a bright start to the match and they showed their form in front of goal when Vardy clinically finished after a swift break, just minutes after hitting the post. Vardy then looped a header onto the bar, before Arsenal broke and scored a goal of their own. Their defensive frailties were soon exposed again as Hector Bellerin got in behind their defence and found Sanchez, who had the simple task of scoring from close range.

After the break, the Foxes struggled to come up with a response, as their opponents took control of the match and made their dominance count by scoring two more goals. Although Vardy scored another goal late on, it proved to be far too late to mount another comeback as Claudio Ranieri's side fell to their first defeat of the season.

Arsenal's performance

Arsenal have been heavily criticised for not scoring enough goals in recent weeks, but they proved their doubters wrong by firing in five at the King Power Stadium. Walcott and Giroud both showed a clinical touch in the final third, while Sanchez scored a treble to end his recent drought in front of goal.

While there may still be question marks over their defence, their midfield and attack combined brilliantly all afternoon and they had too much quality for their opponents to handle. With crucial games to come against Olympiacos and Manchester United in the next week, Arsene Wenger will be delighted at how his team played and how they have responded to a difficult period in their season.

Alexis Sanchez: The Chilean was back to his brilliant best this afternoon, after an uncertain start to the new season. He scored his first goal with a close-range finish, before doubling his tally with a header after the break. He then crashed in a powerful drive from range to seal his hat-trick to cap an outstanding display.

Biggest gaffe

The defending from both teams this afternoon was poor at times, which ultimately resulted in a high-scoring encounter. Arsenal allowed Vardy too much space down the left for his goal, while Sanchez was left unmarked inside the box to score his first of the match. Kasper Schmeichel may also feel that he could have done better with the third of Sanchez's goals, as he was slow to react to the Chilean's long-range strike.

Referee performance

Craig Pawson may receive some criticism from the home fans after not giving a foul on Vardy before Arsenal scored their second of the match, but he made the right call to play on. He also allowed the game to flow on a number of occasions, which helped lead to a very watchable game of football.

Leicester: Ranieri's side will return to league action next Saturday with a trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City.

Arsenal: The Gunners will take on Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, before facing Manchester United in the Premier League next Sunday.
