Mark Halsey blasts decision to appoint Jon Moss as FA Cup final referee

Mark Halsey describes the decision to appoint referee Jon Moss for the FA Cup final as a "joke".

Former referee Mark Halsey has hit out at the Football Association for appointing Jon Moss as the match official for the FA Cup final on May 30.

Moss, who has been criticised of late for making blunders on the pitch, will oversee the showdown between holders Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Halsey took to social media outlet Kicca to slam the decision and suggested that Mark Clattenburg, who he believes is the best man for the job, was snubbed because the FA "don't rate him".

Halsey wrote: "[FA chairman] Greg Dyke has got to take a look at the appointment process for the FA Cup referee because, frankly, it's become a joke. I don't blame Jon Moss, the man who will take charge at Wembley, it's not his fault. But is he the best man for the job? Absolutely not.

"It's quite clear Mark Clattenburg should be in charge. He's consistently our outstanding referee who time and time again proves himself on the biggest stage. Simply, his face doesn't fit and the powers-that-be in this country are sending out a message to the rest of the world that they don't rate him."

Moss recently admitted that it was a "complete surprise" to him that he had been appointed the match referee.
