Preview: Aldershot Town vs. Gateshead - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Aldershot Town and Gateshead, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aldershot Town will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to three matches when they welcome relegation-threatened Gateshead to the Electrical Services Stadium on Saturday in the National League.

The hosts have achieved back-to-back away results in their last two matches, whereas Gateshead's recent tendency to draw matches has not eased their fears of dropping into the sixth tier.

Match preview

Aldershot are currently two matches unbeaten, with the team earning a point at Maidenhead United before completing a comeback to win 2-1 at Southend United last weekend.

The Shots were experiencing their longest winless run of the campaign prior to that victory at Roots Hall - a seven-game spell without three points cost them league positions and a place in the FA Trophy.

Ross McNeilly's men are now sitting 17th in the National League standings with eight matches left to play, and with a nine-point advantage over the relegation zone, it is relatively safe to say the club will endure its 11th season in the fifth tier next year.

Town have really struggled to earn wins at their Hampshire home this campaign, turning out victorious in just five of their 19 matches home matches - only Torquay United, Maidstone United and Saturday's visitors Gateshead have recorded fewer.

Gateshead perhaps have the advantage this weekend considering they have collected more points on their travels than at home this season, although those successes have still arrived sparsely.

The Tynesiders have managed to earn just the single point in their last four National League games, with the North-East club finding life back at this level of football difficult following their National League North title in the 2021-22 term.

Mike Williamson's charges are 21st in the league table and three points away from safety - albeit 19th-placed Yeovil Town and 20th-placed Dorking Wanderers have played two games more.

The visitors on Saturday will be relying on the likes of Adam Campbell and Marcus Dinanga to come up with the telling moments in attack - the duo have both registered seven National League strikes so far this term.

Team News

Aldershot have confirmed the signing of Jai Rowe following his release from Scunthorpe United, and the right-back is set to make the matchday squad on Saturday afternoon.

Karoy Anderson has returned to parent club Charlton Athletic and will not feature for the Shots on the weekend - the 18-year-old did not manage a start during a frustrating loan spell.

Gateshead will be without defender Kenton Richardson for the foreseeable future after the former Sunderland man suffered a foot injury whilst on duty with England C.

Tom Allan will be out of action for a couple of weeks after picking up a knock since returning from a loan spell at Spennymoor Town in National League North.

Aldershot Town possible starting lineup:
Ashby-Hammond; Jordan, Partington, Kenlock, Ochieng; Pendlebury, Glover, Cordner, Frost; Barham, Amaluzor

Gateshead possible starting lineup:
Marschall; Pye, Richardson, Storey, Tinkler; Pani, Ward, Francis, Conteh; Campbell, Dinanga

SM words green background

We say: Aldershot Town 0-1 Gateshead

Aldershot recorded a much-needed win at Southend last weekend but have failed to earn back-to-back wins in the National League since November.

Gateshead were improved during their stalemate with Torquay and should have enough about them to pick up three vital points in Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.
