League Two roundup: Shrewsbury Town go top of the table

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's League Two action as Shrewsbury Town go top of the table by beating promotion-chasing Newport County 1-0.

Shrewsbury Town knocked Wycombe Wanderers off the top of the League Two table by beating promotion-chasing Newport County 1-0.

Substitute Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro scored the only goal just after coming on to send Salop to the summit on goal difference.

Burton Albion are level with Shrewsbury on 54 points and they also beat playoff hopefuls Bury 1-0, courtesy of a Phil Edwards strike in the second half.

Marc Richards reached 15 goals for the season by scoring twice in Northampton Town's 5-1 victory over Accrington Stanley.

Hartlepool United gave themselves hope in the fight for survival, as they closed the gap on Mansfield Town to just eight points. Jonathan Franks bagged a brace in a 3-2 win over Plymouth Argyle.

Carlisle United swap places with Mansfield in the table after the home side fought back from a goal down to win 2-1 in the relegation scrap.

Wycombe played out a goalless draw with Portsmouth and slip to third despite gaining a point.

Luton Town scored three first-half goals to seal all three points, but suffered a scare as Cambridge United managed to pull back two goals late on in a five-goal thriller.

Substitute Shaquile Coulthirst scored a penalty in the 88th minute for Southend United to snatch them victory over York City.

Tranmere Rovers move five places clear of the relegation zone following a 2-1 win over Exeter City, but remain only two points from safety.
