Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly identified AC Milan's Ignazio Abate as a target as he looks to add to his defensive options.
Glen Johnson is expected to leave Anfield when his current deal expires at the end of the season, and the club are reported to be keen to find a replacement for the England international as soon as possible.
According to The Mirror, Abate, who is also in the final year of his contract, is attracting interest from Liverpool, and the club could attempt to secure his services in the January transfer window.
However, the 27-year-old recently indicated that he would be eager to sign an extension, despite the reports suggesting that he is being watched by a number of European clubs.
Abate has made over 100 Serie A appearances for Milan and was a member of Italy's World Cup squad in the summer.
