Team GB's Tom Daley says that he had a point to prove when qualifying for the men's 10m diving final.

Tom Daley has said that he had a point to prove after qualifying for tonight's men's 10m platform diving final.

The Brit finished fourth in the qualifying heats, with the top 12 going through, while reigning Olympic champion Matthew Micham failed to progress.

Daley said that he was happy with his performance having finished fourth in the synchronised event, and vowed to give tonight's final his best shot.

"That was a lot better than yesterday," said the 18-year-old. "That's the thing with diving, anything can happen, as you've seen with the Olympic champion not qualifying.

"After knowing the disappointment from the synchro, I really wanted to prove a point. Last night was tough to get through all that competition but I'm happy and anything can happen tonight.

"I'm gradually getting sharper and sharper, it's hard to compete when you know it doesn't count to medals but now I have qualified I'm going to give it my best shot tonight."

Chinese duo Qiu Bo and Lin Yue finished first and second respectively in qualifying, while USA's David Boudia came third.
