Greig Laidlaw bemoans "stupid penalties"

Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw admits that the team gave away "stupid penalties" in their defeat to Italy in the Six Nations.

Greig Laidlaw has said that Scotland gave away too many "stupid penalties" in their defeat to Italy in the Six Nations this afternoon.

Scotland led throughout the match until conceding a penalty try in the final minute of the clash at Murrayfield, handing Italy their first Six Nations win in two years.

The captain told BBC Sport: "We're obviously disappointed with the performance. Unfortunately in the end it's cost us our indiscipline, but it wasn't just that, it was the whole performance.

"There was way too much poor stuff in between the good things we did. We didn't get forward enough when we were ahead. We talked about our discipline all week and we gave away numerous stupid penalties and we let them chip away at out lead throughout."

The result leaves Scotland at the bottom of the table.
