Goalkeeper Jose Sa is allegedly likely to reject a move to Nottingham Forest to sign a new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Goalkeeper Jose Sa is reportedly likely to sign a new long-term contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

On Saturday afternoon, the Portuguese produced one of his best performances in a Wolves shirt, starring in a 1-0 victory away at Everton in the Premier League.

However, for much of the summer, Sa has been linked with a potential exit away from Molineux, either side of Julen Lopetegui departing his role as head coach.

Although the 30-year-old kept 22 clean sheets during his 73 appearances in the Premier League during the previous two seasons, a number of errors led to criticism from supporters.

With Wolves in a position where they could boost their position with FFP with the sale of Sa for a marginal profit on what they paid two years ago, a transfer may have theoretically suited all parties.

Nottingham Forest have been regarded as long-term suitors of Sa, a consequence of the stopper having previously represented Olympiacos who are also owned by Evangelos Marinakis.

Head coach Steve Cooper is in need of another goalkeeper with Manchester United's Dean Henderson - a former Forest loanee from last season - instead in line to sign for Crystal Palace.

While Matt Turner has already been acquired from Arsenal, further competition is required, and Football Insider suggests that Sa remains on Forest's radar.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, though, Wolves are discussing the possibility of extending Sa's contract.

The suggestion is that the relevant parties are in advanced talks and that Sa is more likely to extend his stay at Molineux than move across the Midlands.

Despite the financial benefits that could have come from a Sa sale, head coach Gary O'Neil may be grateful for any continuity at this stage due to a number of his players having admirers elsewhere.

Manchester City are increasingly confident of agreeing a deal for midfielder Matheus Nunes for a fee in the region of £51m plus add-ons, O'Neil then theoretically being in a position where he can sign a replacement as well as a new centre-back.

City's neighbours Manchester United are also said to be weighing up whether to make a concrete approach for Nelson Semedo, potentially offering Aaron Wan-Bissaka in part-exchange.
