Late Adam le Fondre strike gives Wolverhampton Wanderers win

Adam le Fondre comes off the bench to hit a late winner as Wolverhampton Wanderers end Charlton Athletic's unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at Molineux.

Substitute Adam le Fondre struck late on to end Charlton Athletic's unbeaten start to the season and give Wolverhampton Wanderers a 2-1 victory in the Championship at Molineux.

Wolves dominated the first half and had an early chance to take the lead when Benik Afobe ran at the Addicks defence and found James Henry in space, but the midfielder curled inches wide from 18 yards.

Wolves captain Dave Edwards headed over from an excellent Henry cross before Henry tested Nick Pope with a long-range drive as the home side continued to press for a breakthrough.

Charlton, unbeaten in six so far this season, had their first attempt when last weekend's matchwinner Johann Berg Gudmundsson curled wide from 25 yards, before Kortney Hause headed a Henry free kick well over the bar for Wolves.

Gudmundsson had a header saved by Carl Ikeme on the stroke of half time as the sides headed into the interval level, and the Icelandic international gave the visitors the lead 10 minutes into the second period when his effort squirmed past Ikeme.

Zakarya Bergdich could have doubled the lead when he shot straight at Ikeme, but the home side got back on level terms when Edwards stabbed home at the second attempt.

Edwards should have put his side ahead when he headed over from a great position after Matt Doherty knocked Henry's corner across goal, but substitute Le Fondre turned in Sheyi Ojo's low cross with five minutes left to win it for Wolves.
