Hibernian confirm that loanee striker Leigh Griffiths will face disciplinary proceedings over an allegedly racist comment on Twitter.

Hibernian have confirmed that striker Leigh Griffiths will face disciplinary proceedings for allegedly racist remarks made on Twitter.

Griffiths, currently on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, sent a message reading "f*** off back to your own country ya clown" to user @Zak_Iqbal.

Hibernian revealed that Griffiths had admitted to sending the message, and claimed that the striker has already apologised for his actions.

"Hibernian FC today confirmed that it had spoken to player Leigh Griffiths about exchanges on a social media website," read a club statement.

"The player had realised that despite the provocation, the language he used was totally unacceptable and had already apologised for what he said. The player has closed access to the account.

"The player supports the club and the whole of Scottish football in its stance against racism, bigotry and anti-social behaviour. The player will be subject to a disciplinary process which will be a private matter between the club and the player."

Parent club Wolves have already confirmed that they will leave any disciplinary proceedings to the Edinburgh club.
