Mauricio Pochettino coy on third Tottenham Hotspur bid for Saido Berahino

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino admits that he does want a striker, but refuses to be drawn on whether a third bid for Saido Berahino would be made.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he does want to sign another striker before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

The Argentine was pressed on reports that Spurs have had a second bid of around £21m rejected for West Bromwich Albion frontman Saido Berahino, but wouldn't comment on the Baggies' frontman specifically.

"I need to spend my time thinking how I improve my team and to be focused on my players," Pochettino told reporters ahead of his side's home match against Everton on Saturday evening.

"It is true there are a lot of rumours around us with different players and different names. It is obvious we need one striker more, maybe one player more, and we are working hard.

"This you know and this is what we need to provide the squad with; the right balance to compete the whole season. This is my one desire and we are working hard for that."

Berahino has handed in a transfer request at The Hawthorns and also unfollowed the club on Twitter, but chairman Jeremy Peace insisted earlier this week that selling the forward was not on their agenda.
