Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend vows to learn from his mistake after he was suspended for breaching betting regulations.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend has admitted that he deserved his punishment for breaching betting regulations.

Townsend has been handed a four-month ban, three of which are suspended, and while the former Queens Park Rangers player insists that it wasn't "anything sinister", he has revealed that he is now intent on restoring his reputation.

The 21-year-old told The Sun: "When I spoke to the FA, I was fully regretful and was ready to accept the deserved punishment.

"Speaking honestly, there was never anything sinister going on. There was no match-fixing, no betting on my team to lose, no inside information and I certainly never bet on Arsenal to finish higher than Spurs, as suggested by people on Twitter.

"There is a stain on my reputation, and deservedly so, which means I now must show everyone it was a mistake and I've learned from it."

The England Under-21 international has made 18 senior appearances for Spurs.
