Tim Sherwood: 'League Cup exit a major disappointment'

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Tim Sherwood expresses disappointment in his side's defending following their defeat to West Ham United.

Tottenham Hotspur caretaker manager Tim Sherwood has described his side's 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in the League Cup as a "major disappointment".

Late goals from Matt Jarvis and Modibo Maiga fired the Hammers into the semi-finals of the competition, leaving Sherwood ruing his team's defending.

"This is a major disappointment both for the boys and for myself and more importantly, for the football club," he told Sky Sports News. "I think we need to defend better as a group. The players need to recognise when to rest on the football.

"I am very disappointed. They got their breaks and that was it. We started the game very well. I thought we were in command of the game. They stuck at it and bombarded us and got us on the breaks."

There was more bad news for Sherwood during the match as winger Andros Townsend limped off with a suspected hamstring injury.
