Rennes found themselves a goal down after only 14 minutes. Toulouse's Jean Makoun whipped in a corner, which was turned into the net by home defender Ola Toivonen.

The hosts sought to respond through Sylvain Armand, who was picked out by Romain Alessandrini, but his header was saved at the bottom corner of the Toulouse goal.

Rennes came close again as Jonathan Pitroipa fired wide following Benoit Costil's set-piece delivery.

Toulouse soon made the hosts pay for their wastefulness when Clement Chantome crashed home a good effort into the bottom corner from outside of the box.

Nelson Oliveira managed to pull one back for Rennes with a neat header, before Toulouse restored their two-goal advantage as Serge Aurier tucked home to make it 3-1.

The hosts set up a close finale when Abdoulaye Doucoure scrambled the ball into the goal late on, but Toulouse held firm to secure three vital points.
