Conor Casey secures the points for Philadelphia Union

Conor Casey's goal in the 55th minute gives Philadelphia Union a 1-0 win over Toronto.

A second-half strike from Conor Casey proved decisive as Philadelphia Union ground out a 1-0 win over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer today.

The home side almost opened the scoring with nine minutes on the clock when Sebastien Le Toux picked up Casey's headed pass and let fly, testing Joe Bendik in the Toronto goal.

Philadelphia had the best chances during a goalless first half, and they took the lead 10 minutes into the second as Casey drove home Le Toux's cross from inside the penalty area.

Toronto almost hit back immediately, with a pair of scoring opportunities falling to Gilberto in quick succession, but Philly keeper Zac MacMath kept the Brazilian at bay.

Le Toux forced another save from Bendik in the 78th minute with a long-range drive, and both sides managed to create half-chances in the minutes that followed, but one goal proved enough for Philly.
