A report claims that Southampton will not entertain bids of less than £40m for in-demand Netherlands centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Southampton have reportedly placed an asking price of £40m on the head of Virgil van Dijk.

The Netherlands international joined Saints in a £13m deal from Celtic in the summer of 2015 and has since developed into one of the Premier League's most consistent centre-backs.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with moves for the 25-year-old, but according to The Mirror, Southampton are not willing to entertain bids of less than £40m.

Van Dijk, who only signed a new six-year contract with Southampton earlier this year, has been linked with a switch to Liverpool in a deal that would see Daniel Sturridge move in the opposite direction.
