New York Red Bulls rule out move for Bastian Schweinsteiger

Signing Bastian Schweinsteiger from Manchester United "will not be a topic" for New York Red Bulls chief Oliver Mintzlaff, who insists that the club are not interested.

New York Red Bulls chief Oliver Mintzlaff has declared that his side have no interest in bringing Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger to Major League Soccer.

The ex-Germany international has not yet made an appearance under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and was given the chance to depart during the summer transfer window.

Schweinsteiger decided to stay in the hope of winning over his new manager, but that has so far failed to happen and a move to the United States is understood to be on the cards for the New Year.

MLS commissioner Don Garber recently admitted that he was keen for the 32-year-old to join the league, but one of the teams linked with his signature have made it known that it is "not a topic" for them.

"Bastian Schweinsteiger is a great player with a great career. But there have been no conversations, he isn't and will not be a topic for us," Red Bulls' Mintzlaff told Bild.

FC Dallas remain the favourites to sign Schweinsteiger, who is under contract with United until the summer of 2018.
