Manchester United could reportedly spend as much as £90m on West Ham United's young star Declan Rice as early as January.

Manchester United could reportedly pay as much as £90m to secure the signature of West Ham United starlet Declan Rice.

The Red Devils are said to be looking to their midfield in January and the 20-year-old would fit the bill.

According to Noel Whelan, speaking to Football Insider, United have 'every chance' of signing the highly-rated Rice.

The former Leeds United and Coventry City man said: "West Ham have got a really special player on their hands, they will struggle to hold on to him, because the big clubs will be hot on his trail.

"I think Declan Rice could be the next player who goes for a Premier League record fee. We have just seen Harry Maguire go for £80m and I wouldn't be surprised if Rice goes for more than that, above £90m, even.

"He's young, English, hugely talented and is such a long way from his peak. You look at a team like Man United, who need a midfield anchorman and you can see it happening."

This season has seen academy graduate Scott McTominay displace the experienced Nemanja Matic in the midfield anchor role at United, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could look to add extra quality by bringing in Rice.

Manchester United host West Ham later this month, which could provide Rice with the perfect Old Trafford audition.
