Nathan Ake emerges as Manchester United target?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly identifies Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake as a possible transfer target as he looks to strengthen his backline.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake as a possible transfer target.

United boss Jose Mourinho is known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements, having failed to bolster his backline during the summer.

Mourinho has previously worked with Ake during their time together at Chelsea, and the Daily Star reports that the 23-year-old's form for Bournemouth has caught the attention of the United boss.

Ake initially impressed while on loan at the Cherries before making the move permanent in a £20m deal last year.

Bournemouth would be looking for around double that fee now, and United could face competition for his signature from fellow top-four hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is understood to have earmarked Ake as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who was heavily linked with a move to United during the summer.
