Dimitar Berbatov tells Romelu Lukaku to stay at Manchester United

Dimitar Berbatov encourages Romelu Lukaku to stay put at Manchester United this summer amid interest from Inter Milan.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has encouraged Romelu Lukaku to stay put at Old Trafford amid interest from Inter Milan this summer.

The 26-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to San Siro after feeling left out at United ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived in December.

Antonio Conte, who attempted to sign Lukaku as Chelsea boss in 2017, confirmed in a press conference on Friday that Inter were working on a deal to bring the Belgian to San Siro.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Berbatov advised Lukaku against moving to Serie A and insisted that working under Solskjaer would serve as the best option for his career.

"I think he should stay, I like him and I don't agree with all the criticism he gets," he said.

"He has some areas he needs to work, like every player, but his team-mates need to help him as well. For example, if I'm a midfield player, and I play with him, I should know how to pass him the ball, when to pass him the ball, which foot to pass him the ball.

"I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the good coach for him, because if Lukaku needed to ask something (to) the coach, he can go ask him. Solskjaer was a great striker so if you need striker advice, you should go to him."

Inter's most recent bid for Lukaku is reportedly £54m, but this figure is nowhere near enough to convince United to sell.

The Premier League club are only expected to part ways with Lukaku if they make a profit on the £75m they paid for the Belgian two years ago.
